Where is the Manual?
Like several people that I know, WoW is my first MMORPG. Really, before this game, I never thought of myself as a ‘gamer’. I entered this game blind and had no one to tell me where to turn on the light switch.
I learned, like so many others, the hard way. However, there is something I really feel Blizzard should put in their manuals…actual information that will help the Noob player maneuver around. An example: telling hunters that they have to tame beasts in the wild to learn new skills.
The unfortunate aspect of the game, is that most of the information a person will need to become a better player, does not come from the game itself but outside of it. And if you don’t know where to go, then you are left stranded without a life line.
There are several ways you can find information, such as blogs and websites. But I believe the best way to learn is to find yourself a mentor. Just like in RL, find someone who seems to understand your class, the tools. Someone who is willing to help you practice your chain trapping or help you create a shot rotation. If, for example, you are trying to learn how to master the Jump Shot, having a person in game who can see your attempts and help make immediate changes can radically speed up your learning curve. These people are the Manuals you never received in the game. And if, you are are a mentor, offer your services to those struggling, help them master a technique and create a new playstyle. It will help everyone involved and will make you a better player yourself. Teaching does that.
I have been playing this game for over 2 years now and I am still a student. And that is okay. The point is to become comfortable in your skin. To be able to talk and use your class to the best of your abilities.
And to do that, you need to ask questions. No one wants to questions and be called a ‘noob’. But if you don’t ask, how are you supposed to find out?
Too scared to ask? Then at least watch.
Just the other day, I learned something pretty cool watching another hunter in PvP. Pookie went straight at him, jaws ready to rip out his aorta, when he Fainted Death and Pookie came trotting back to me.
I was amazed. It never occurred to me to do that during PvP. I had always tried to trap or if I had enough time, fear the pet away.
A few minutes later, another hunter targeted me, sent in the pet, but this time I FD and to my utter surprise the damn pet tramped back to the hunter!
Like my father always said, you learn something new everyday.
And to show that I am not all type and no action. Here is my noob question of the week. I seriously want an answer to this, because I haven’t found one on my own.
A high-level hunter I knew and trusted once told me that you can interchange bullets and arrows using the same bag (ie ammo pouch) using the same weapon (ie a gun).
I, personally, don’t believe it. Why would Blizzard have two different ammo bags if you could use both in the same one? I have never tried to put arrows in my ammo pouch because I always assumed it would not be allowed. What the hell, what do I know? But I would like to know if anyone else has experimented with this? It is true?
Be bold. I wear the Hunter’s Mark with pride.

they are indeed distinct to their respective ammo types.
bullets in the pouch
arrows in the quiver
never shall the two meet.
Correct, you can not put bullets in quivers and vice versa.
The FD trick is better suited though against casters in my opinion. If you see them casting a spell at you (other than instant) try to time your FD so it is used at close to the end of their cast(addons such as the standard Blizzard UI one or EnemyCast Bars work good for this). That way they spend all that time casting and not doing damage to you, only to have to turn around and try it again.
Thank you Ma’am
@Grumpy
Thanks for the tip! I will have to try that against casters.
I have noticed though, that against hunters, and locks I have had a high ratio of success using FD. If there isn’t a healer, I can usually kill them before they can send their pets back.
One word of caution against Locks if you are PvP’ing against them. ALWAYS keep your eye on them after you kill them, getting killed after you kill them by the rezzing on you sucks, period.
To combat against hunters feigning death, set them as your Focus when you start attacking them (i have a keybind for it). If they feign, have a macro ready to target your Focus (i have a keybind for that, too) and pow, you can get right back on them. You still lose some time, but not nearly as much, especially in a busy battle in which you’d have to click on them.
It used to be that you could craft high-damage bullets with engineering and then turn them in to an NPC in Orgrimmar (and perhaps other cities, for those dwarves among you) for arrows of the same quality. Maybe that’s what this other hunter was talking about.
Grumpy’s advice also applies to Shaman’s too as they can rez themselves too after dying the first time.
You can buy arrows and you can put them in your ammo pouch and you can equip them but when it comes to shooting them, nope (at least with my Wolfslayer Snipers Rifle). So I sold ‘em back at Halaa for 38s less than I paid :-(.
