Leveling With Style
Have nothing to do? Is your 70 just jumping around Shatt, while you wait for something exciting to spark your interest. Why not start a new leveling project! This time with style!
Regardless of the years I have been playing this game, it never ceases to amaze me that I don’t know everything. Just last night I heard a new concept, which had never occurred to me before: “leveling pants.” Sure, I had heard about people putting the spell thread or high end armor kits on white items, but I really thought of it more as a funny joke and not really as a leveling tool.
Except for last night. Fem,after lusting after Shia’s Druid, finally caved in and agreed to create a druid alt. I, already having a level 7, agreed to help her.
Meanwhile while we were bumbling along inside the world tree, our guild received an influx of PvE refugees, friends of Krys looking for a more active environment. First question out of one of their mouths, “so do you guys have leveling pants?”
After the collective, “huh?” Krys’ pals preceded to explain. Leveling pants are white, non-soul bound items that you can enchant with speallthread, armor kits or enchants and which can also be given to other characters. Hence, if you have let’s say, tuxedo trousers, with a Clefthide armor kit, you can theoretically rotate them through your alts until they become obsolete. Meaning, you will never have to be a level 1 with 62 hp ever again!
Here is an example.
Before I put on my pants and chest, I had 147 hp at level 7. After equipping these items, my HP went up to 547. A 400+ health just with the clefthoof armor and 100+ health enchant. Does this mean I will using this items all the way to 70? No, but it does mean that they give a major boost in my survivability. It will last us until 16 if not more, since you have increases in stats as you level. However long it lasts, at least Fem and I will fashionable druistas!
What do you need for your own “Druista Set”
To enchant the items and apply the leg kits, please do them on your mains. You will need a level 60 character to apply the kits to the leggings then to mail them to your toon.
Item enchants that can be used:
- Nethercleft Leg Armor
- Nethercobra Leg Armor
- Clefthide Leg Armor
- Cobrahide Leg Armor
- Mystic Spellthread
- Runic Spellthread
I didn’t add golden or silver spellthread since they are for healing not damage, but they can be used as well if you so wish
Enchants (just a few and not a complete list, but will give you the idea):
- Enchant Gloves - Superior Agility
- Enchant Weapon - Mighty Intellect
- Enchant Gloves - Assault
- Enchant Bracer - Major Intellect
- Enchant Chest - Major Health
- Enchant Gloves - Greater Agility
Note: Not all these items are “green”, but I had trouble getting the white items to appear on the white background

Oh, wow, I’ve never even heard of that term before. Pretty awesome idea, though I’m the type of person that likes the challenge of leveling and treats each character as a unique entity; I don’t even share gold amongst them until they’ve got a mount and some experience under their belt. I just consider it part of the leveling process.
I’ve never heard of it. I didn’t even know those items can be traded between characters.
@Cynra: Normally, I am like you when it comes to a new alt. I enjoy starting from scratch and pushing through the content. Just wanted to try something a little different, since I am NOT a fan of the Night Elf zones.
@Lor : Same here, I thought that after it was equipped with the armor kit that you couldn’t trade between toons, but since those items are not soul-bound, you sure can! I know I won’t be getting rid of that set for a long time coming!
does that work with enchanting as well? i remember one time that a few guildies of mine tried doing that, and the white item became soulbound. but if it works with armor kits, then sign me up!
@Krizzy I can’t check right now because the armory doesn’t hold toons less than 10. But the pants, with the kit on, is NOT soul bound. I will check the chest with the +100 enchant when I get home.
Ooooh… interesting idea… might try that out on my baby shammy.
Yes, this does indeed work. I have a whole leveling set that is not soulbound. Any white item will NOT be soulbound, even if enchanted or hit with an armor kit. The only rub is you have to use certain enchants, as they have item level requirements.
I have an entire get-up that puts my newbs in the 5-600 health range. That alone makes a huge difference. I also have a staff enchanted with fiery, as most toons can use staves right away. My only other difference is I have the HASTE enchant on my gloves, you should see that fiery staff fly!
@PTD Thanks for the info-Krizzly there you go!
Don’t forget run speed on boots! For melee characters fiery is insane as well as haste to gloves.

@Awlbiste, all I know I am going to twink the hell out of my drood. Need to get out of darkshore and ashenvalle as soon as possible!
How odd. I’ve never heard these called ‘leveling pants’. I’ve always heard it as the term ‘twinking’, and you can find many of these items on the AH as well. Usually for 150-300g.
@Suzanne: You see, this is why this concept seemed so foreign to me. Twinking in my mind is always associated with toon which are never going to be 70. Their purpose in life is to live in BGs. So the idea of doing to a toon that you ARE going to level, never crossed my mind.
I guess it varies server to server maybe, or PVE’ers vs PVP’ers.
Twinking a leveling toon eases the leveling process by leaps and bounds. Though isn’t necessarily a good thing in low end instances if your tanks aren’t equally twinked…
Twinking a bg character for a certain bracket just guarentees now that you’re going to get paired with other twinks. No more pwning for these kinds of twinks. Lawl. =)
Mind, my first intro to ‘twinking’ was back in ye old RPG days, where it was first called Min Maxing, and later called twinking when people wanted to insult you.
That is a brilliant idea. What it shows also is the fun and joy that could be had if WoW didn’t have a freakish obsession with making everything BoE/BoP.
The joy of passing down gear is totally lost in WoW. People that have played other MMOs know how fun it is. Giving gear to your own alts or to friends is a pleasure that most WoW players have sadly never experienced.
