What is Your Unicorn?
Everyone has one.
That elusive piece of loot, that one single object that if you finally, finally receive, will make all your in-game dreams come true. That item that turns you from a nice, loving individual to a raving lunatic. That item that when won will wipe frustrations and disappointments to nothing. All those runs, and countless wipes will disappear the moment that illustrious item makes its way into your bags.
I currently do not have a Unicorn in Lich, but in Burning Crusade, I spent months, dealing with crappy trash mobs, stupid demons, damn idiot ogres and their twisted sense of humor, all for one single shiny piece of loot: the Sonic Spear.

Murmur who? Oh that elemental bastard who mocked me by dropping the spear for Shia’s lock! The same bastard who seemed to favor EVERY SINGLE freaking hunter on Bleeding Hollow.

And taking about Persephen… Curator, you mechanical piece of shit, thanks a lot for waiting until I was exalted twice over and deciding two weeks before the expansion to finally have the decency to drop my tier 4 gloves, only to find out they were worth more than toilet paper next to my Brutal Gloves.

The mother-loving Drape of the Dark Reavers from Shade of Aran. I can’t count the number of times I ran Kara on my hunter and I saw it drop once. And promptly lost the roll to another hunter, the hubby of our guilds’ main healer. It was a bigger upgrade for him, sure, but when that’s all I was running the instance for.. I got a little miffed. And probably five times as miffed when I ran it for the first time as OT on my pally and it dropped. And she got it because nobody else in the group wanted or needed it. /headdesk

oh, Legacy… i raided kara 1 whole year only to see it drop on my first raid in my priest :S honestly, never heard so many ppl screaming in vent, i got so angry that i accidently gave the loot to the wrong guy
Would say it is the proto drake mounts. Any of them would do, the Boss drop one, the mysterious egg one, the rare spawn one or any other version. Have only ever seen one boss drop mount and that was after nearly 2 years of kara runs.

A croc. Any croc. Just ONE little croc. I’ve got them on alts (well, 2 of them) but not on Seph, my main. I’ve done the fishing daily practically every day, but while others get them all the time Seph has none of them, or the hat.
The other thing was Ribbon of Sacrifice. ALL other healers in my guild had it, I passed it to others twice and the only time I saw it drop after that until the week before WotLK came out was on my rogue. I can’t bring myself to throw it away now, even though it’s no good any more.

While I never really gave a decent try for it, the S3 bow would have to be mine. I didn’t care that it was not the best for BM Hunters, I just wanted the skin. And I’ve always enjoyed bows > guns.

In BC, it was that !@#$% spear. I jokingly told my guildies that I’d get Legacy before that damn spear dropped for me. And the joke became reality. I got Legacy and I never saw that damn spear drop.
This time, it’s the crossbow from Heroic UK. And since I’m starting to run 25 mans with some old raid buddies, I’m likely to get better before I see that stupid xbow drop. =)

Since 80, my gorilladin and i have farmed that instance probably 200 times. Which, if my math is correct, gives me an 87 percent chance of having seen it by now.
Nothin. Not once. I have vendored quite a bit of dungeon set 1 items, though. LOL

That lousy old man never gave it to me on my other toon. Had one of the blue gems, one of the mini crocks, and bunch of fish hooks, but no hat!
For my Disc/Holy priest, pre-BC, it was Will of Arlokk, with all that beautiful spirit. Aaghn.
For my (at the time) elemental shammy, BC, it was the Naztherim Mindblade. I saw it drop just once, and lost the roll on it. I consoled myself with the knowledge that I had respecced resto and it didn’t matter so much anymore.
There isn’t anything in LK that’s hit unicorn status for me… yet.

For me it was Fool’s Bane, the mace that supposedly drops off of Terestrian Illhoof. It was the first item I wanted from Karazhan, before I’d even been there. And after countless Karazhan clears, I have still never seen it, on any character.
I play a Hunter, and only that one character.
I dinged 80 a couple of weeks ago, and have been running Heroic UK every day since; trying to get the Crossbow off of Ingvar, since I’m still rocking the Prison Warden’s Shotgun out of regular Violet Hold. I’ve even taken the risk of running it with other Hunters who don’t have it yet, my desire for it is so great. And thus far, I have yet to see it drop, have yet to even have the opportunity to roll on it. After two weeks straight running the place.
One of my Guildies; who also plays a Hunter, and has become a good friend, was close to dinging 80 herself the other night. While she was doing the last bit of XP grinding, we were chatting back and forth with each other, talking about upgrades and such, and I told her that I bet that she would get the Crossbow the first time she ran Heroic UK.
She dinged 80. Heroic UK was her first Wrath Heroic. I wasn’t online when she ran it. She was the group’s only Hunter.
Any guesses as to what dropped for her?
Sigh. At least I have the Plunderer’s Helm.

You know, I forgot about Legacy. I think I was suppressing bad memories. I never saw the thing drop for my hunter and eventually got the S3 axe instead.
Hehe.. I got Legacy after I didn’t need it any more. Sunfury took forever to drop for me, and I got to use it for about a week before I piled up enough badges for the Chicken Bow of Awesomeness. *sigh*
I thought of something else, since people have mentioned non-combat pets.. Mr. Pinchy from BC, and the Sewer Rat from Wrath. Still have yet to fish up either of those little buggers, and I’ve spent hours trying for them both!

For my hunter, it was the t4 chest. The only peice of t4 that she never got. Rawr.
For my paladin…we have to go way back. Way back to BWL, and the gods be damned healing mace. It dropped twice for us. Twice! And it went to the feral-flavored druid (yes, we had one of those then) and the shadow-as-often-as-possible priest (yes, we had one of those too!).
Now keep in mind that both priests and druids had STAVES to choose from. Paladins had NOTHING other than that mace. NOTHING. I carried the freaking mace from MC into BC and was so very, very angsty over it. If I saw my GL from back then in person I’d likely still slap him for letting them roll on it. Even if I didn’t get it, it should have gone to a damned paladin!

For me it was definitely the Season 3 2-handed mace. I don’t have one in Wrath yet.
Romulo’s Poisn Vial I tried and tried to get it drop for my rogue but never happened. Then my guild decided to try a fun run of 80’s to Kara and I took in my only 80 a DK. It dropped and nobody wanted it so I took it. I use it to solo low instances to get my achievements.
Hmmm….do you want a list sorted by hunter and then priest? Although it is nice to know someone else could not get the spear to drop for a hunter….and we won’t even get STARTED on DST!

Vial of the murloc-loving Sunwell. Alembic of Infernal Power. Either would work. I ran Heroic Underbog nothing less than 20 times. No drop. Heroic Magister’s Terrace? 18 times after the first few when I started counting. I got the White Hawkstrider, I got the Sindorei Orb, I even saw the Phoenix pet TWICE (lost those two rolls)… never even SAW the Vial of the Sunwell, and it’s supposed to be a 1 in 4 drop.

I would have to say,
out of any item,
the one I desire the most is the phoenix mount from The Eye.
It will most likely continue to elude me for the rest of my WoW adventures. But there is no harm in hoping, no?

Exalted nearly two times over. Not once did a ranged weapon drop for me in Kara. NOT ONCE. No Steelhawk, No Wolfslayer, No Sunfury. Not once did a range weapon drop.
But then Vashj gave me her bow on our second kill, so, I got over it…. sort of.
Surge Needle Ring. Yeah, it’s BoE, so I could woo the unicorn with sugar (gold), but ugh. I want it of my own sweat, tears, and Mammoth Cutters, no one else’s.
That, and all the rage I have at Malygos needs a vindication!
I found a unicorn on my DK, and then promptly killed it. The axe from Heroic Loken. Took me a few weeks, but I got it. Now there’s that tank trinket in heroic AN (getting a worthwhile group for heroic AN is a unicorn all its own), and beyond that, I really REALLY want the 2h Mace that drops off trash in 25 man Naxx (this last 1 may be inaccessible).
For a while, the lack of a unicorn to seek was killing my desire to play, and it took me a while to find it.
My Shaman, Druid, Warrior, and even Warlock really don’t have 1 atm, so I really haven’t played them much.
